He is Risen: Honoring Easter with Fashion

Every holiday is reason for celebration, but here at COL Easter holds a special place in our hearts. Not only is this when the weather starts to get warmer, but it's a time that calls for delicious food, family gatherings, dressing up, and of course, remembering the core reason for our faith!

While other Christ-centered holidays like Christmas are excellent to remember the birth of Christ and the salvation that He gives, Easter is the holiday where we remember the ultimate sacrifice made for our sins. Christ defeated death and paid our debts forever! This is the core reason for our salvation, so it must be greatly respected and honored.  Having family gatherings where you eat, converse, and have fellowship together is an excellent way to honor the Easter holiday. At the same time, you can easily honor it with what you wear!

Whether your family attends church on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, or all three, dressing up for these services is a great way to honor Easter. Dressing well for church (or any day) is important as it shows you put in effort and that you care. With dressing for church we should not aim to distract but rather show that effort is behind our appearance for the Lord.

Obviously, we must honor God with our outfits and actions every day as this is a testament to what we, as Christians, stand for. If we dress or act in an inappropriate way, we will look no different from the world. How then can we change the world if we are the world? This is true for every area of our lives, not just attire.

Not only is what you wear important, but who you wear as well. Wearing brands that outwardly support unbiblical principles portrays a frivolous commitment to what Bible-believing Christians stand for. This is hard to do, as so many brands deny God with their promotions, but moving forward, work on shopping with and supporting brands that are committed to Biblical principles.

Another way to honor God during Easter (and everyday!) is to have a family devotion. God specifically created us for relationships and fellowship as He Himself is a relational God. Matthew 18:20 specifically says "for where two or three are gathered together in my name, I am there among them". This is not to say that God is not always with us, but when we specifically gather with family and friends for devotionals or church, God especially enjoys having a presence in that. So this Easter, gather the family for a small devotion, whether you share something God is teaching you personally or reflect on an earlier sermon heard at church.

So, whether Easter is being celebrated or it's any normal day, we must strive to honor and respect what God has, will, and is doing through our attire, conversation, and actions!
